JACK'S MEMORIAL PAGE — SETUP NOTES
===================================

WHAT THIS IS
A standalone memorial page with a photo gallery (with visitor uploads) and a
guestbook (with visitor posts). Same folder structure works as a subfolder
of c32x.com (e.g. c32x.com/jack/) or its own subdomain.

REQUIREMENTS
- PHP 7.4+ (cPanel default is fine)
- No database needed — stories and photo metadata are stored as JSON files.

UPLOAD VIA cPANEL
1. Upload the whole "webpage" folder's CONTENTS (not the folder itself) into
   the destination directory, e.g. public_html/jack/
2. Set folder permissions so PHP can write to them:
   - data/       -> 755 (777 only if your host's PHP user needs it — try 755 first)
   - uploads/    -> 755 (same note as above)
   If you get an "upload failed" or story-posting error, bump those two
   folders to 775 or 777 in File Manager (right-click -> Permissions).
3. Visit yoursite.com/jack/ (or wherever you placed it) to confirm it loads.

FILES
  index.html          the page itself
  css/style.css        styling
  js/main.js           gallery + guestbook front-end logic
  php/config.php        shared settings/helpers
  php/submit_story.php  guestbook POST handler
  php/get_stories.php returns guestbook entries as JSON
  php/upload_photo.php  photo upload POST handler
  php/get_photos.php returns gallery photo list as JSON
  data/stories.json     guestbook entries (auto-created/updated)
  data/photos.json      uploaded photo metadata (auto-created/updated)
  uploads/ uploaded photo files land here
  assets/images/ the two starting photos (portrait + family)

MODERATION
There's no approval queue — posts and photos appear immediately. Given
this is a low-traffic family/friends page shared by direct link, that's
usually fine, but you can always open data/stories.json or the uploads/
folder in File Manager and delete anything unwanted by hand.

There's a hidden honeypot field on both forms to deter simple spam bots.
It's invisible to real visitors and doesn't need any setup.

CUSTOMIZING
- Colors/fonts: css/style.css (top of the file has the palette as CSS variables)
- Wording: index.html
- To swap the two starting photos, replace assets/images/jack-portrait.jpg
  and assets/images/jack-family.jpg (keep the same filenames, or update the
  paths in php/get_photos.php)

If you want this password-protected before the service, cPanel's
"Directory Privacy" tool (in File Manager) can lock the folder with a
simple username/password without touching any code.
